Children’s Birthday Photography
This is more of a personal post but I wanted to post it because I want to show all those parents of children who worry their child won’t do as they wish, that you can still get a good photograph.
My middle child turned 4 this week and each year on each of my children’s birthday’s I do a series of photographs to document them. I do try to cover a few things. Them being them, posed shots, and their favourite toy/s or book.
My son Jerry is the most impossible person in the world to photograph, he refuses to do anything you ask him, he doesn’t stay still AT ALL and is always pulling a face or running away from you. It was to be a challenge!

So I kinda gave up because that’s my boy, he doesn’t pose. He runs around enjoying himself and plays with his favourite toys

I knew that I would just have to do what I do when I photograph other peoples children and that is relax and let them be children and eventually the energy would dissipate (slightly) and I would get some sitting still shots!
I also decide to use the opportunity to snap my daughter who will pose until the cows come home!

So no I didn’t get any shots of him standing still or looking at me
what I did get was a load of great photos of Jerry being himself
Always be yourself I tell my clients this!
And of you would like some photos of your children, being themselves then get in touch!
In the summer months the evening has some lovely light from about 4pm onwards!
And as you can see even with a child who refuses to do anything remotely helpful you do still get some reportage shots!
